This past weekend, we girls and several other families from church surprised our Mom and Dad with a celebration for their 23rd wedding anniversary.
Our parents obviously had no knowledge of our plans, so it was quite a challenge keeping an evening free for the surprise without our parents scheduling other activities. One of the families solved this problem by inviting our family over for dinner. This allowed our parents to think that we were going to a simple family get-together, although it would turn out to be a surprise anniversary celebration.:-)
On the day of the party, we arrived at our friends’ house earlier than the surprise crew. So, our friends casually escorted us to their beautiful garden outside to distract our parents. We all tried to keep mom and dad engaged in conversation so the surprise crew could sneak in through the back door unnoticed.
Before the initial surprise, those of us not visiting in the yard with Mom and Dad tried to relax as we played with our camera and video camera.:-) Since we did not know the exact time the rest of our friends would arrive for the actual surprise, we wanted to stay ready to capture the moment. We were amazed that Mom and Dad did not suspect anything since we were constantly videotaping and taking pictures of the same people and portions of the garden before the surprise! Haha!
We were not the only ones getting anxious while waiting for the surprise crew. One of the fathers told us, “I’m so nervous! I think that we are going to be the ones really surprised instead of your mom and dad!”
Eventually the rest of our friends showed up and we had terrific time surprising mom and dad before enjoying the rest of the night of fellowship and sampling some Filipino dishes, which our friends lovingly prepared.
Since it was dark we had a hard time getting good pictures, but here are a few to show you what our evening was like:

Bebe was so sweet, for she came home for the weekend from her nursing job in Manila (2 hours away) for Mom and Dad's party.:-)
It's impossible to keep from smiling whenever we are around Mr. Santos! He's always so cheerful.:-)

While anyone can be a parent, it takes someone special to be a mom and a dad. We love you so much, Mom and Dad! Happy Anniversary!
