Give Thanks

Thanksgiving Day came upon us before we knew it! Before the holiday, we wondered, “What will we do? How will we celebrate the day? Where can we find our fall foods?” Well, since we were spending this Thanksgiving in a foreign country, we knew that some things would be a bit different.:-)

For our Thanksgiving meal, we were so excited to actually find some of our traditional fall foods such as pumpkins, pecans, and a turkey! It was quite memorable preparing a fall dinner in a warm, tropical environment. In fact, by the time the turkey was done cooking…so were we! It was very hot. :-)

Our Thanksgiving decorations differed from traditional looks. Instead of fall colors, vegetables, and leaves, our decorations consisted of tropical fruits, green leaves, and even our place mats were made of banana products.:-) So, this was definitely a different Thanksgiving, but an enjoyable one as well.

This year, we did miss our relatives (who usually celebrate this holiday with us), the vibrant fall colors in the trees, and even the crisp, fall weather that beckons us outdoors. Yet, although we love all these around our annual Thanksgiving holiday, this year we enjoyed just being able to spend time with one another—especially since Dad has been so busy lately.

We enjoyed cooking the Thanksgiving dishes together in the warm kitchen, taking family pictures outside in the humid weather, playing Scrabble and RummyCube after dinner, and strolling around our neighborhood at dusk. Spending time together and reflecting on God’s blessings definitely made our Thanksgiving Day enjoyable, memorable, and special—even if things were different. :-) What would life be without God’s blessing of our family members?

Well, we trust that you also had a wonderful Thanksgiving celebration as you reflected on all of God’s blessings. No matter where we are or what kind of circumstances we are in, God is still an incredible God!

“Every good thing bestowed, and every perfect is from above, coming down from the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shifting shadow.” – James 1:17
