This past weekend, we had the chance to witness the wedding of Kuya Jeff and Até Eleanor. :-) It was a joy to watch them begin this new phase of life by honoring God in their vows and commitment before Him.
(As you may have noticed, Filipinos love color, which explains why the bride chose these colors for her wedding.) :-)
We Feenys were surprised and excited when they asked each of us to participate in their wedding. It was an honor! Mom and Dad had the opportunity to take part as sponsors, which is a group of married adults who act as witnesses and mentors to the new couple. Sarah participated as the bridesmaid who rolled down the white carpet for the bride, while Meagan and Melissa joined several other musicians in playing for the wedding.
The ceremony went well—which was a blessing considering the various factors as well as last minute preparations. At the beginning of the wedding, some passing rain showers nearly caused a power outage at the church. Thankfully, the major lights stayed on during this evening wedding.
It would have been challenging to finish the ceremony in the dark, had the electricity gone out—although a candlelight wedding could have been memorable… and something to talk about at their 50th wedding anniversary.:-) Still, it was a blessing that the power stayed on throughout the ceremony.
Several of those in the wedding (the sponsors, bridesmaids, and even the bride) used the same seamstress for their dresses. It is amazing how she was able to complete almost everyone’s dress even though she only had a few months. Because of her workload and the short amount of time, some of the participants did not receive their outfits until the day of the wedding.

In fact, one bridesmaid did not receive her dress until after the wedding had begun! Yet, she was still able to walk down the isle... even if it was a little later she was supposed to.:-) It’s always amazing to find out how those last minute preparations at weddings seem to fall in place at just the right time.
After the wedding ceremony everyone commuted to the reception, which was absolutely beautiful! We had never been to a wedding reception like this one before. It was held at a picturesque, outdoor covered garden that was accented with numerous white “Christmas lights” and floral décor. It’s hard to tell from the pictures, but it was exquisite! It truly was an amazing wedding reception.
In the Philippines, receptions (and weddings) are slightly different than those in the States. We discovered that the groom and his family typically pay for weddings and wedding receptions in the Philippines, instead of the bride and her family. Also, in general, most Filipino wedding receptions consist of full course meals—and this reception was no exception! :-) (for more wedding pictures click here)
Over the past two years, we have really enjoyed getting to know Kuya Jeff and Até Eleanor. They are so kind and their testimony has been an encouragement to us and others as well. It was very special for us to be able to participate in their wedding.:-) May the Lord bless them both as they embark on this new phase of life with the Him!
