Last night, our church held a special music concert titled “We Preach Christ.” Since the church’s annual youth camp is next week, the youth put together this concert to help pay the way for others to attend camp. We all thought that the young people did a wonderful job performing. Each song included powerful sections of Scripture that was arranged to music. As they proclaimed truths from God’s Word, it stirred our hearts to worship our Savior and Sovereign King.
Preparation for Friday’s concert began early this past week. Those of us who played instruments daily practiced our pieces, which we would perform during intermission. Yet, the choir members (and some of the instrumentalists who were also in choir) rehearsed all day and almost all night!In fact, one evening as we finished our instrumental practice and gathered our music sheets to go home, we noticed that the choir members still lingered around. After we asked them when they would also be leaving, they told us that they would remain a few more hours as they still had more songs to practice.
(The group that played during intermission)Later we heard that they stayed up until 2:00 A.M. practicing and recording CDs to sell at the night of the concert. Their hard worked was rewarded as God’s wonderful truth radiated from their music during the performance as they sang for the Lord. :-)
Not only did we enjoy the music concert, but we also felt the Lord speaking to our hearts through the music’s message. As Christians, we have a duty to fulfill, a plan to carry out, and an important task to complete while we tarry here on earth. May we not compromise in the face of temptation, retreat in fear, fail to live a life surrendered to His will, or avoid sharing Christ to a lost and dark world.
Christ has no hands but our own hands to do His work today;
He has no feet but our own feet to lead men in His way;
He has no tongue but our tongue to tell men how He died;
He has no help but our help, to bring them to His side.
We are the only Bible the careless world will read;
We are the sinner’s gospel, we are the scoffer’s creed;
We are the Lord’s last message, given in deed and word;
What if the type is crooked? What if the print is blurred?
What if our hands are busy with other work than His?
What if our feet are walking where sin’s allurement is?
What if our tongues are speaking of the things His lips would spurn?
How can we hope to help Him and hasten His return?
--Annie J. Flint
Our Lord is returning soon and we pray that we may be faithful in proclaiming Christ until the trumpet sounds and we see Him face to face.
