Experiencing a Variety of Showers

Many of you know that the Philippines is located in a tropical climate where humid weather, warm sunshine, and afternoon showers are quite frequent. We have learned to always bring an umbrella with us whenever we go out to run errands…. unless of course we would rather cool off in the rain.:-)


Well, recently we experienced another kind of shower here in Manila, a baby shower. During our time at the Ascott apartments, we have met a new acquaintance, Rosy (we…. um… still do not even know her last name). Rosy, a Filipino, is living here with her family. She has three young daughters and a new baby boy on the way. Wanting to do something fun for Rosy, four of us TI families (the Feenys, the Espinosas, the Cliftons, and the Wades) thought it would be fun to give her a baby shower.


We all had so much fun buying little baby items, wrapping the gifts, and decorating….. with the few decorations we had.:-) One of the ladies, Mrs. Wade, made a diaper cake—something that we had never seen before. She individually rolled up the baby diapers, tied some ribbon around the edges to hold them in place, and then stacked two more layers on top to create a three-tier diaper cake. We thought that was a darling idea.













When Rosy first walked in the door and saw our simple decorations and gifts, her mouth just dropped open. She was not expecting much at all, and was so appreciative of everybody’s efforts to help give her baby shower. She said, “I’ve never had any kind of shower before in my life, for a baby or my wedding. When I was younger, I gave all of my friends wedding showers, but I was the last one to get married…. and never even got a wedding shower. Thank you all so much!”
It was a delight for us all to bless her in this small way. After all…who can resist an excuse to throw a party? :-)
